Umm…shit. I can’t say I’m a Tron fanboy by any stretch, but Disney’s new trailer for the December 2010-slated sequel, Tron Legacy, is pretty damn awesome. I have to think that with a visual film like this, 3D rendering is the right choice and should prove a big pay off. Jeff Bridges, too, looks solid returning as Flynn. (Even I can appreciate him in this, despite being bothered by his Oscar award for Crazy Heart).

Following the 82nd Annual Academy Awards comes a second trailer for the upcoming Iron Man 2. This take gives us a look at some of the new elements to the story, such as Stark’s on-to-go suit (or whatever you might call it), as well as Rourke’s character Whiplash; which I still contend is going to be the best part of the film.

Patrick Wilson’s new film, Barry Munday, which premieres this week at SXSW in Austin, looks super cute, if not incredibly bizarre. The basic plot surrounds Wilson’s character losing his family jewels, but gaining something far more valuable in return. The equation is a bit cheesy, sure. The apparent humor and interesting cast, however, seems like it can work.

Even more reason to love Sandra Bullock. In the included video clip, she accepts her Razzie for Worst Actress of 2009 for All About Steve. She also won for Worst Screen Couple (with Bradley Cooper). And remarkably, as we all know, she’s up for an Oscar this evening for her lead role in the The Blind Side. Can you imagine if she were to win tonight and take home awards for best and worst actress of 2009? That would be stunning.

Looks like the marketing machine is kicking into high-gear for the upcoming A Nightmare on Elm Street remake with the release today of a new one sheet, and the impending (Thu) debut of another trailer.

I was really looking forward to Get Him To The Greek, since I adored Russell Brand’s character, Aldous Snow, in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Sadly, judging from the first trailer, it looks like Greek is probably just a fun after-thought, and nowhere on the level of Sarah Marshall, (despite what the marketing may want you to believe). Why the hell does P. Diddy have such a prominent role?

Aww…this brings back memories from when the first Toy Story hit back in 1995. Things have changed a bit with the story since then, most the addition of Ken and Barbie this time around. Is Ken supposed to be metrosexual or will he eventually turn out to be a big mo’? (Doubtful, since it’s Disney, but still a curious question).

M. Night Shyamalan directing The Last Airbender might reflexively turn some off to the film (ahem…The Happening); but rest assured, he’s working with existing material and not crafting his own tale, which has been his default approach in the past.

The more I see of Tim Burton’s upcoming Alice in Wonderland, the more I’m convinced it’s going to be a wonderfully dark adventure. Lets just hope the 3D effects aren’t as blunt and boring as in most films.

Cop Out

Posted In First Looks

The pairing of Bruce Willis and Tracey Morgan seemed an odd choice, but I have to admit that Cop Out (originally entitled A Couple of Dicks), actually looks pretty funny.
