  • Trailer for Black Swan

    Trailer for Black Swan

Apparently, the ballet is a much darker world that hides behind innocent hues of pink and music box adornments — one that can turn a bitch ca-razy. At least that’s the implication of the long-awaited trailer for Darren Aronofsky‘s next, Black Swan, which is set to open the Venice Film Festival in September. Natalie Portman takes the helm as the unbalanced Nina, a motivated young girl who seems to crack under the pressure of the pas de deux and the competing hotness of Lily (Mila Kunis). Aronofsky seems like he’s added some imagination and texture to what might otherwise be a straightforward drama of competition and double-crossing. How else would you explain those eyes, and whatever Nina plucks from her shoulder?

Trailer for My Soul to Take

A trailer for Wes Craven‘s latest, My Soul to Take, is finally out. And it’s pretty classic Craven fare, which is about its only redeeming quality. The film promises a high-school scare (literally and figuratively) and a formulaic OK time. Each wondering teenager tries to discern the killer in the dark; each gets offed one-by-one (some will likely be getting off at the same time); ultimately one will remain to reveal the truth ahead of a conclusion that is surely to glimpse the possibility of a sequel. The film is borderline interesting, but the 3D angle, which seems to be infecting almost every film as of late, makes it a real toss-up.

Six years ago previously, a NASA probe returning to earth with samples of an alien life form, crashed over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear, and half of Mexico was quarantined as an INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain “the creatures”… The story begins when a US journalist agrees to escort a shaken American tourist through the infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border.

    Trailer for Burlesque

Well this has got gay, gay, GAY written all over it. Christina Aguilera leads the upcoming Burlesque as a talent-in-plain-sight who just wants to perform; Cher plays the momma of the venue who gives Ali (Aguilera’s character) her shot at stardom; and Stanley Tucci watches on with a queen-y stare and bitchy swagger like he did in Devil Wears Prada. (As an aside, I feel like Tucci is pioneering, or maybe just furthering, a kind of the “magical homo” ala the magical negro.) Throw in theater-queen Alan Cumming and eye-candy Cam Gigandet and you have the musical event of November. Start mixing the cosmos!

Well where did this come from? It’s not the greatest quality, but damn if it’s not a comprehensive first look at the upcoming Thor film. This is the footage that screened recently at Comic-Con.

    First Trailer for Sucker Punch

Geoff Boucher of the LA Times Hero Complex blog calls Sucker Punch “one of the most audacious films of 2011.” I think he might be right. Stop what you’re doing and watch this.

  • Super Hot Super Heroes

    Super Hot Super Heroes

When the Avengers assembled at Comic-Con recently, it became pretty evident that in order to play a superhero (or villain), one had to have super-human good looks. That isn’t exactly surprising, right, because who wants the day to be saved by a troll? And it’s not exactly a new trend — Christian Bale as Batman, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, and the list goes on. But considering the fervor for comic-book based films as of late and the interweaving of them as evidenced by the Avengers agenda, the power behind a square jaw and bedroom eyes becomes all the more clear, and seemingly necessary. Here’s a look at 12 recent castings that seem to prove the point.
