About Popscorn
[pop-skawrn]
Popscorn Weekly is cooked up by DC-based film critics Kevin Powers and Tim Plant. Our mission is to deliver forthright and intelligent thoughts on new and upcoming films. No artificial add-ins or pretense, just a naturally salty flavor that we’re sure you’ll enjoy.
Kevin
Kevin has written for a number of online publications surrounding film, most recently authoring news and reviews for FirstShowing.net where he spent a little over a year. Admittedly, Kevin enjoys the occasional junk movie (Fast and the Furious, Beauty Shop), but he more prefers thoughtful gems like The Nines or Sunshine. Sci-Fi and horror are mainstays of his Blu-ray collection, and he’ll trade a cloudy film (Stranger Than Fiction) over a happy one any day of the week.

Tim has been the film critic for Metro Weekly, Washington D.C.’s Gay & Lesbian News Magazine, since 2007. He prefers suspense over gore, shudders at the thought of a family drama, and is a surprising sucker for a good romantic comedy. Tim hates popcorn and loves to shush people who talk during movies. His orange cats (orange is his signature color) are named after characters from two of his favorite movies: Scout from To Kill a Mockingbird and Jesse from Dude, Where’s My Car?
